100% scrap pillars

As a final touch I decided to add these pillars in the corners of the fence. They are made using left over rebar sraps and railroad spikes because the Iron Horse Neighborhood is in reference to the railroad that runs through it. I spent a day going to thrift stores to find two matching bowling balls.

This is the Beautiful Sign that was painted by Gavin Troy. Gavin is a Prolific Tucson Artist. I am really happy to have him help with this project. As you can see in the background some gardens are getting started by Iron Horse Gardener Ester. She was around a lot during install and even brought us lunch.

As you can see in the background some gardens are getting started by Iron Horse Gardener Ester. Even in this sun drenched hard soil Ester has been able to start not only 2 gardens for herself but also 2 gardens for others in the neighborhood that could not. Ester is kind of a bad ass. She was around a lot during install and even brought us lunch.

Here are just a hand full of the 80 some flowers that were made for the fence. Each one is unique and personalized. Now they will be glazed and eventually bolted to the fence in Iron Horse Community Garden.

Making the flowers

We made flowers out of stoneware at the Tucson Museum of Art. I invited folks from the neighborhood and friends to come make ceramic flowers that will be glazed and bolted to the fence. I work as a monitor at the TMA. The museum also provides ceramic classes and has some of the best facilities and ceramicists in town.
